The Serious Play conference brings together changemakers from around the world, with a chance to mingle and learn from each other.
I’d like to talk about two gems that most attendees missed, and that I doubt any of you are aware of.
How to debrief and reflect on practically anything
Julian Kea has crafted debriefing questions that allow a team to reflect, learn from, and debrief after practically any experience, a class, a meeting, a project, whatever. Each one appears on a card in his debriefing deck. Team debriefs after learning experiences are incredibly useful. Here is a sample card:
A PDF of the cards, which includes instructions, can be downloaded at TheDebriefingCube.com and there is also an app at https://thedebriefing.app/en/about.
Making a difference for women and children in Kenya
In public schools in Kenya, class sizes are 60 and above, there usually aren’t enough chairs, and there is often no electricity or running water. The cost of private school is beyond what 90% of Kenyan’s can afford.
The last session of the last day featured Sana Alimohamed of Duara Education in Nairobi, Kenya. Boy am I glad I stayed for this one.
Duara is helping women create micro-schools. A micro-school has up to 30 children, the cost is just over the cost of public school, and the curriculum is play and experiential based and meets international learning standards. The cost of creating a new micro-school is under $1,000 and sets up a sustainable business for each woman who runs one. Talk about win-win-win-win (proprietor, child, parent, and society)!
You can find Sana on LinkedIn and also learn more and learn how you can help at https://duara.education/
This is an exciting initiative.
